Supabase is hiring a Tech Lead for CLI and Local Experience. The role is a pure engineering leadership position, without people management, focused on the Supabase CLI, local development, infrastructure-as-code workflows, and tooling that makes Supabase feel native in developer environments. The role sets technical direction, drives architecture, contributes significantly as an individual contributor, and mentors engineers through code review, pairing, and design feedback.
Strong TypeScript expertise. Deep cross-platform experience with filesystem, subprocess management, terminal handling, and Windows, Linux, and macOS differences. Solid understanding of CLI distribution and packaging such as Homebrew, npm, APT, Scoop, and Chocolatey. Track record building CLIs with strong developer experience, intuitive structure, clear output, and good error messaging. Experience making and defending architectural decisions in collaborative asynchronous environments. Interest in developing other engineers. Familiarity with agentic workflows and designing for agent use cases. High autonomy. Nice to have: Go experience, familiarity with Effect, contributions to popular CLI tools or open-source dev tooling, containerization and local orchestration experience, familiarity with Postgres, database migrations, the Supabase local stack, and IaC or config-as-code workflows.
