Lead an end-to-end production MySQL migration from version 5.7 to 8.4 for a large Java microservices platform, covering migration strategy, performance, reliability, security, recovery, monitoring, automation, and technical documentation. The engagement is planned for six months with possible extension.
5+ years of production MySQL database administration; experience with major upgrades or large-scale migrations; expertise in MySQL internals, SQL, performance tuning, replication, and transactions; Linux or Unix administration and scripting; managed cloud databases such as Cloud SQL or Amazon RDS; backup, high availability, disaster recovery, and failover; ability to minimize downtime and lead cross-team technical discussions. Java, JDBC, microservices, MySQL 8.4, observability, security, infrastructure-as-code, and technical leadership experience are desirable.
